Jogging Failure...

Up at 6.30 after Mari had disappeared early to meditation class. The forecaster had said that a cold front would be passing over later on in the day with snow down to 200m so I decided to break my running drought of 4 days and go for a run. I managed to go about 1 km before my body gave out. I walk the rest of my circuit. I just couldn't be bothered running. I did 25 sit ups before cramp set in.  All in all a pretty shitty start to Sunday.  On the bright side I have a bid in for the last of my Target Doctor Who collection on Trademe that I have never got around to buying. It would be good to tick one of my childhood ambitions off my list. I used to dream of owning the whole collection. Now it is WITHIN MY GRASP AAARGHGHGHGHG THE HUBRIS!!!!!!!!!!

  1. That's 1km more of running, and 25 more situps, than I did today. Congratulations.

What sort of meditation is Mari doing? Is she going to a Korean Zen (Seon) temple, or doing something more warm-fuzzily Western?

  2. None of the above. Some Indian style. It is way too deep for me. It just looks like she is sitting on her arse and sleeping. I just go to bed to meditate - about 8 hours if I'm lucky.

  3. If her eyes are closed, then it's not Zen meditation, which requires the eyes to remain open. If it's another Buddhist form, it could be Vipassana (Insight Meditation), which is pretty popular in anglophone countries. If it's not a Buddhist style, but something derived from Hinduism, then I can't even guess, since there are so many traditions.

Good luck collecting all those Dr. Who videos.

  4. It is called Sahaj Marg according to Mari. It involves doing nothing for loooooong periods. Beats housework I suppose.

  5. Ah, thanks for that. I could guess that "Marg" comes from "marga," the Sanskrit word for "path" or "way," but I had no idea what "Sahaj" meant, so I looked "sahaj marg" up and discovered it's a form of raja yoga. Quite cool, and definitely different from Buddhist meditation both technically and in terms of its metaphysical dimension.
