I lied.

Actually two more exciting thing happened.... I bought four new second hand Doctor who books - Namely Mission to the Unknown ,Planet of the Giants,Edge of Destruction (Doctor One) and Paradise Towers (Doctor Seven)

AND I did my first Facetime with my wife and my brother up in Auckland and it was cool. My wife and I have got prepaid Iphone4s which means we are not on contract but pay as we use the service. I am unsure if we are billed by the minute or if it is free if we are both using WiFi. The cool thing about facetime is that you can wander around the house while you are talking. My bro in Auckland was able to wander outside and show me his cars and jet ski which certainly couldn't have happened on a A Skype using PC.

  1. So tell me: what's the charm of Dr. Who? I don't ask facetiously; some of my US friends are into the TV series and the books, but I've never plunged into that fictional universe.

  2. I grew up with memories of hiding behind the sofa whenever the Daleks or the Cybermen were on Doctor Who. I guess it is a "you had to be there" thing. It is probably on a par with the American TV show Star Trek but is much more open to imaginative scenarios. It also doesn't take itself so seriously. Interestingly in Korea the new Doctor is really popular. All of my current crop of students follow the new Doctor. I must admit to liking the 60-70s best because they were shot on a real shoestring (typical BBC) budget but they were so imaginative.

  3. Is "the new doctor" the same actor who played Bartholomew Crouch in the fourth Harry Potter film ("Goblet of Fire")? That actor was David Tennant.

  4. Yip, I think so. He is a Scottish dude in real life with a fantastic Scottish brogue. He had to put on a English accent for the part of the Doctor.
